I first read about Vivian Maier in January of 2011. A book of her work became available a couple months ago. The price is a bit high, but I will definitely be looking for it the next time I am in Powell’s. Here is the news story from last year:
update: Just found it at BN in Vancouver for $40, instead of the $100+ it is fetching on line right now.

I bought this for Dad for Christmas for $26. He LOVED it. When I got home and ordered it for myself, it could not be found and prices were up around $200. :(
I was fortunate enough to find it in Vancouver for $39.99.. it’s the only copy I could find in the area, and nothing available currently online.
Barnes& Noble is still being a bitch about telling me the truth I already know: they can’t get it for me. They keep extending the expected ship date. But Amazon already did that for three months before sending me an email cancelling my order for me.
With that kind of story, I don’t understand why they can’t print enough books to meet the demand. You don’t come out with something like that and just print a few hundred copies. I mean, how did they even make hardcovers available at $26? The whole thing confuses me. Anyway, I know eventually I’ll get one.
